PAVILION DESIGN

This project took place on the site of the Temple Church in Bristol. The brief outlined a scenario where I was commissioned to design a pavilion. This pavilion was meant to contain a public bar, but due to the complications of the COVID-19 pandemic, this was not possible. Due to the listing of the existing building, I decided to use the gardens that are a part of the site. I designed a modular form inspired by tensile structures for my pavilion. I used this modular form 7 times to create a sheltered area for seating and socialising. The material I would choose for these modular forms would be a PVC coated polyester fabric with a perforated pattern. The aim of this pattern would be to mimic the light coming through a tree canopy. I also designed a glass surround in certain areas to lessen the effects of the elements.
